Fresh Avocado Shito

Shito is the word for pepper in my mother tongue, Ga (Ghana). I first wrote about shito here, where I explained that it could be any type of peppery substance, be it fresh scotch bonnet pepper, kpakpo shito (sorry, I still don’t know the english name but this has an incredibly distinctive flavour, nothing tastes quite like it). I wish I had some at the time I made this jazzed up traditional fresh Ghanaian chilli pepper salsa (shito). I simply added avocado and cilantro or coriander leaves and dressed it with lime juice. This turns out to be similar to guacamole. Can you tell. Here is a pic of shito that I dressed up with mango and what looks like coriander and basil or mint leaves.

    • Oooooh! Thank you! I have been thinking about how much “salad” we incorporate into our traditional dishes. Add a few bits here and there and have discovered there is so much freshness offered by our favourite dishes.

Follow them, they are great. The star of this dish is obviously the avocado which is loaded with healthy monounsaturated fats, vitamins C, K, B6, Folate and Potassium.
